I’ve never actually watched the Deadliest Catch TV show. But I have read—or rather skimmed—Captain Sig Hansen’s memoir North by Northwestern for information on Ballard. I’ve cited Hansen in a number of posts, specifically those that involve 1960s Ballard Ave (see here, here, and here). And here’s what he has to say about Marvin’s Garden, the park on Ballard Ave that occupies the site of the former Ballard City Hall.
Back by popular demand, here is movie Thursday, with a clip from the new TV show Portlandia, which as the name suggests is about Portland, Oregon. I’d like to make two points: 1. I think my ears might still be ringing from the last Sleater-Kinney show I went to, 9 or 10 years ago; and 2. I read about Portlandia in the New York Times and figured it all sounded just a little too familiar. I’ve only seen a few clips, like the one above, but much to my surprise, while it is all very familiar, it’s also very funny. Huh. How about that.

The good folks at WordPress–the “stats helper monkeys”–sent me a state of the blog summary for 2010. And I’m very pleased to report that the WordPress Blog-Health-o-Meter™ reads: “This blog is doing awesome!” The total number of views was so extensive that WordPress had to present the data in full Boeing 747-400 passenger jet-equivalents (i.e., units of 416).
