The Sounders beat the Whitecaps 3:1 last week in Vancouver to claim the Cascadia Cup. The riot in the tifo is a nod to the Stanley Cup riots earlier in the year. The image is, of course, injured crowd favorite Mauro Rosales. It was a great game to watch. The Whitecaps, again looking a lot better than their league standing suggests, went ahead in the 22nd minute. I’m still not sure how that wasn’t offside. They managed to stay in front for just 11 minutes.
Brad Evans scored a penalty in the 33rd minute following a hand ball in the box. Evans buried the kick with a solid f**k you to the gamesmanship of Vancouver keeper Joe Cannon, and the rest of the chippy Whitecaps team. Montero scored an excellent goal in the 63rd minute, followed by another goal in the 67th. Highlights are below.
