This is, of course, the infamous Ballard Blandmark on Leary Avenue. (I’ve written about it here and here.) I understand the Ballard Landmark’s impulse to try and add some life to this building, but clearly they need a new “branding” firm. I’d assumed the whole Blandmark thing was some sort of unfortunate accident, but seeing this latest campaign, perhaps not.
The problems start with the slogan — “Life happens here.” Need I say more? And then there is the old geezer. Did they really need to make him two stories tall? And what Senior Lifestyle activity is he supposed to be engaged in? Bungee jumping? Skydiving? I’m guessing he’s supposed to look happy, but there’s definitely an air of desperation, like maybe he’s one heartbeat away from cardiac arrest. A man his age should really be taking things a bit easier.
